Our Story
Meet the Founder – Fredy Callañaupa Gonzales
The story of Minka Peru Expedition began with a passion for the Andes and a desire to truly understand the world of trekking and travel in Peru.
After studying Tourism Guiding in Cusco, I began my career working for different tourism companies, gaining experience both as a professional tour guide and in office operations. These first years allowed me to understand the many sides of the tourism industry and the importance of providing travelers with a well-organized and professional experience.
One of the most important stages of my career was working for an Australian-owned tourism company based in Cusco. The company operated with a high level of professionalism, organization, and punctuality. There, I gained valuable experience in tour logistics, operations, planning, coordination, and customer service. Most importantly, I learned that successful tourism depends not only on knowing the destination, but also on careful planning, responsibility, and attention to every detail.
After leaving the company, I decided to take my knowledge beyond the office and onto the trails.
I began exploring the Inca trails and ancient pathways throughout the Andes, from one-day routes to expeditions lasting up to fifteen days. These journeys allowed me to experience the mountains firsthand, understand different trekking routes, study their landscapes and challenges, and gain a deeper knowledge of what it truly takes to organize and lead trekking and travel experiences.
Step by step, these experiences brought together my professional training, field knowledge, and passion for exploration.
With this foundation, I created Minka Peru Expedition.
The word “Minka” comes from Quechua and refers to collective work, cooperation, and working together for a common purpose. This meaning represents the philosophy behind our company: bringing together travelers, local knowledge, professional guides, and communities to create meaningful journeys through Peru.
