Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu 6D/5N

If you are looking for a real adventurous experience you must consider the Choquequirao to Machu Picchu Trek popularly known as Choquequirao Trail Peru. This lesser known Incan site is located in southern Peru. It is an archeological complex that nestles at 3200 metres above sea level (10498 feet) between the foothills of the ‘Nevado Salkantay’.

Often referred to as the ‘Sacred Little Sister’ of Machu Picchu. This complex is similar in structure but bigger than the lost city of the incas. Both were built at the same time. However, the Archaeological site of Choquequirao was the last refuge of the Incas after the conquerors invaded the Inca city. Thanks to his hidden location all covered by dense vegetation it remains intact. Only 30% of the ruins is open to tourism now.

The Route to Choquequirao runs through the canyons of Apurimac surrounded by snow capped peaks and dense rain forests. Choquequirao Trail Peru has unreal new views at every turn. It is not surprising the place is gaining popularity as “New Machu Picchu”. Government had plans to make a cable car in Choquequirao to enhance tourism in the place.

Tour Plan

Day 1: CUSCO – CACHORA – CAPULIYOC - MARAMPATA

In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4 am before boarding the transport we will remind you that you have to have your passport updated and also if you are taking any medication after not forget anything the important thing we transport for 3 hours and 30 minutes to the town of Cachora altitude 2700 meters /8856 feet above sea level there we will have breakfast then again we will continue in our transport for 30 minutes more to the beginning of the Capuliyoc hike altitude 2915 meters / 956 feet from here the trek begins from this place you can see the Apurimac canyon and the imposing Padreyoc mountain and then we will begin a path like the serpent descent  for 4 hours enjoying its beautiful views towards the Apurimac canyon passing through Chiquiska until reaching Playa Rosalinas altitude 1550 meters /5085 feet is next to the Apurimac River there we will have lunch after lunch we will begin the trek passing the Apurimac bridge all the way up zigzag for 4 hours passing Santa Rosa We will continue through the bushes until we reach the community of Marampata at an altitude of 2,925 meters. Here we will have dinner and spend the night in our high mountain tents.

In the morning, the cook will wake us up with tea. After breakfast, we will begin our 1 hour and 30 minute trek to the Choquequirao Archaeological Park. We will register at the entrance to Choquequirao. Then, we will continue our trek, crossing the narrow Chunchumayo River and continuing uphill until we reach the Choquequirao Archaeological Park. We will visit the temple, the plaza, the llama sector, and the Mausoleum. From there, we will have an impressive view. Then, we will continue the trek for 3 hours around the mountain and then descend, passing through the Pinchaunuyoc terraces until we reach Rio Blanco at an altitude of 1,990 meters./ 6539 feet There, we will have lunch. This river is very clean and clear. Here, we will swim and also camp.

This morning, as usual, after breakfast, we will begin the trek up along a zigzag road for approximately 4 hours to Maizal, at an altitude of 3,500 meters. This is the entire hike for today. Here we will have lunch and dinner. It is worth staying because it offers spectacular views and a restful night’s sleep so we can start our hike with plenty of energy the next day.

This morning we will have an early breakfast and continue the hike up Minas Victoria Mountain for 7 hours through forest and grasslands, observing abandoned mine tunnels. We will then begin walking along an original Inca trail until we reach the San Juan (Minas Victoria) viewpoint, at an altitude of 4,150 meters / 13,610 feet. The hike ends here. Here we will pause to appreciate the flight of condors and eagles. From this point, we can already see the community of Yanama. After a rest, we will begin the descent to the community of Yanama, at an altitude of 3,650 meters / 11,970 feet, where we will have lunch, dinner, and camp

Today, after breakfast, will be an easier day because from here we will take a  transport 3-hour and 10-minute to Hidroelectrica, where the train station is located. Here we will have lunch. Then, we will leave our things with the cook to take us on the local train to Aguas Calientes Machu Picchu. We will begin the 3-hour, 10-km hike along the flat railway to the town of Aguas Calientes Machu Picchu. We will check into the hotel, which has been pre-booked.After a restful, we will go out to dinner at a restaurant and then we will give you information for the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu.

Today in the morning after having breakfast at the hotel and we will go to the time that corresponds to us to make our line to take the bus for 25 minutes to Machu Picchu and again here to enter Machu Picchu we have to make a line to pass the control  to visit  Machu Picchu the most visited place by tourists after visiting all of Machu Picchu we will return to take the bus down to Aguas Calientes and then we will go to the restaurant for lunch and take the train to Ollantaytambo where the transport will pick us up to transfer for 1 hour and 30 minutes to Cusco.
