Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley

We will be passing to pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 AM, to drive in our private car to our first stop, the town of Pisac.

Pisac:

Once we arrive at Pisac, we will be exploring the archaeological site while we receive a full explanation about the ruins. The Pisac complex it’s more like a small group of small villages all connected by narrow paths. These different areas serve with distinct purposes such as a ceremonial centre, but you can also find the sun temple and other small ones.  At some point you will be able to get to the viewpoint where you will simply love the remarkable views created for the inca structures that are a blessing to explore. The famous handicraft market of Pisac sprawls every Sunday. Plenty of travellers and locals arrive to buy the handicrafts and souvenirs from the vendors at the local market or around town. The town it’s also known for its silver handcrafted jewellery. Pisac is one of the sites that you cannot afford to miss if you are visiting the Sacred valley. After touring the town and the archaeological site of Pisac, we will end our day trip. Our next stop it’s the living in the city of Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo:

Here, we will visit the archeological complex and we will climb the imponent fortress to have a panoramic view of the large stone terraces on the hillside of the inca site as well. Besides you will appreciate a complete view of the entire village. This place is very popular among travellers that visit Machu Picchu by train. The narrow cobblestone streets of Ollantaytambo are a true paradise for photographers, it’s not uncommon to see people making photoshoots while you walk around the village. Ollantaytambo was an architectural masterpiece and its construction dates back to the stage of greatest expansion of the Inca Empire, under the rule of the Inca Pachacutec. After the Spanish conquerors arrival, the fortress served as a refuge for Inca Manco. Also, we can observe the strategic place they chose to build this. An aqueduct system that still operates nowadays was designed thanks to the underground water channels that they discovered at great depth. The Fuente de la Ñusta  is considered the most beautiful piece made of a single stone and has the shape of a portal. Afterwards, we will begin our descent from the fortress. Our vehicle will be waiting to take us into the heart of Sacred Valley in Urubamba to stop for a delicious buffet lunch , where we will be having some time to rest. Our next parade is the Andean village of Chinchero.

Chinchero:

The picturesque village of Chinchero is famous for its archaeology and their textile artisans. In this place time does not pass, they maintain alive their ancient traditions as their customs, having their own vibe which makes this place unique. We will be exploring the inca ruins, then will visit a weaving center to have an entertaining demonstration that the local women dressed in their traditional customs had prepared for us. Chinchero is the main center of weaving in Peru. Here you will have the chance to purchase high quality alpaca clothes or accessories made by hand for these amazing women with an ancient technique passed from generation to generation. Over 30 women from different communities come to the center to offer their products, so if you want to thank them for the demonstration you can buy some of their amazing handcrafted souvenirs. At the main plaza of Chinchero, you will observe an old beautiful church that it’s said was built under what was once the palace of the Inca Tupac Yupanqui after the Spanish conquerors colonized these lands, this church was built around 1607. It was his idea to build many agricultural terraces and aqueducts, most of them still work until today. Chinchero has the most fertile soil among all Sacred Valley making this the perfect place to produce many products such as quinoa, oca, different types of potatoes and among other vegetables. hey don’t use any modern equipment to protect the salt pools from deteriorating.  Here there can be extracted 3 different types of salt qualities, including the famous pink salt. We will pass through a local market where you can purchase some products that are directly from these amazing salt mines. Finally our day tour comes to an end as we will be returning to Cusco. Once we arrive around 5:00 pm we will drop you off at Plaza Regocijo, which is next to the main square, Plaza De Armas.
