Laguna Humantay Day Trip is one of the popular full-day trips from Cusco. Humantay Lake is a high-altitude turquoise lake. It is a natural beauty snuggled between the snow-capped mountains of the Peruvian Andes.

Humantay Lake is a glacial lake. The lake flows on the foothills of Mount Humantay (after which it is named). The turquoise waters are a result of the melting glaciers of Mount Humantay. This is one of the hidden gems in the Vilcabamba Mountain Range.

Locals believe that Salkantay and Ausangate mountains were brothers. The lagoon was born from Salkantay’s tears of the sadness he felt for leaving his love ‘The Goddess Veronica’. The captivating colors of the lagoon reflect his authentic feelings.

Humantay Lagoon is a popular stop on the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, a popular alternative to the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

During the Laguna Humantay Day Trip, you will be part of the millenary ritual in honor of Pachamama (Mother Earth). Which consists of showing your respect by placing stones and coca leaves. As a way of gratitude for letting you enter and arrive safely.

Just as Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake is a popular destination for a full-day hike, over a thousand tourists, visit the turquoise lake in a day.

Please note that the Laguna Humantay Day Trip is a high-altitude experience. The highest point is at 4,200 meters above sea level (12630 feet). We highly recommend you to spend a few days in Cusco and acclimatize to avoid altitude sickness.

Our guide was excellent. Be prepared for the hike. It’s about 4 miles and takes 1.5 hours going up and 1 hour to go down. The lunch was very good. Be aware that when you’re dropped back off after the trip, you’re dropped off in downtown Cuzco not your hotel.
